About
Joshua Brew (born 1993) is an emerging Australian artist working on Whadjuk Noongar country (Perth, Western Australia), exploring contemporary masculinity through narrative and symbolism. Drawing on lived experience, his work examines the tension between vulnerability and strength, responding to the resurgence of hyper- and toxic masculinities in contemporary culture.
Through meticulous, meditative mark-making, Brew’s drawings trace a journey from guardedness to openness, from isolation to connection with others and the natural world. His restrained palette and focus on the hand-drawn line evoke tenderness and introspection, inviting viewers to reconsider what it means to be a man today.
Brew holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) majoring in Visual Arts from Edith Cowan University. His work continues to explore how art can foster care, curiosity, and emotional openness within contemporary manhood.
